Frequently Asked Questions

What is the complaint deadline for complaint-based offences in Türkiye?

Six months from when the person entitled to complain learns of the act and the perpetrator (Turkish Penal Code Art. 73). Without a timely complaint, no investigation can proceed.

Do I have the right to a lawyer when giving a statement?

Yes. Suspects and defendants may be assisted by one or more defence lawyers at every stage, and counsel may be present while the statement is taken.
