Frequently Asked Questions

Must I claim from the insurer first after a traffic accident in Türkiye?

Yes. For claims covered by compulsory traffic insurance, a written application to the insurer is required before filing suit or going to the Insurance Arbitration Commission.

What is the limitation period for tort claims in Türkiye?

Generally two years from learning of the damage and the liable person, and in any case ten years from the act (Turkish Code of Obligations Art. 72). If the act is also a crime with a longer criminal limitation period, that period applies.
